POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College men's and women's cross country teams opened the 2015 campaign by competing in the Vassar Ron Stonitsch Invitational, hosted by Vassar College at Vassar Farms on Saturday. The men's team placed eighth out of 10 teams, while the women's team took 11th out of 11 competing schools.
Vassar College took home the victory in the men's competition on Saturday, followed by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in second, and SUNY New Paltz in third. Stevens Institute of Technology earned the top spot in the women's meet, followed by RPI and Vassar.
Junior
Christopher DelVecchio (North Haven, Conn.) was the Knights' top finisher on the men's side, placing 56th out of 112 with a 6K time of 21:42.2. Sophomore
Mouctar Kaba (Bronx, N.Y.) took 80th on Saturday with a run of 23:04.9.
For the women, freshman
Angela Barton (Bristol, Conn.) placed 67th out of 110 and was the Knights' top finisher in her first collegiate meet with a 5K time of 22:24.0. Senior
Christine Brown (Watervliet, N.Y.) followed close behind with a time of 22:44.0 to take 70th.
The Knights will next compete at the Steven A. Warde Invitational, hosted by SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday, Sept. 12, starting at 11 a.m.
