POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – While competing in the Vassar College Open on Friday evening, several members of the Mount Saint Mary College track and field teams excelled. The Knights set five new school records during the course of the meet.
On the women's side, freshman
Cathy Terranova (Whitestone, N.Y.) captured first place in the discus with a throw of 27.10 meters. Sophomores
Nicole Zazzero (Brewster, N.Y.) and
Jess Cowell (Shelton, Conn.) went second and third, respectively, in the 1500 meter run. In the 100 meter hurdles, freshman
Mikyla O'Donnell (New Paltz, N.Y.) set a new school record time of 17.68, which earned her second place. O'Donnell also set a new school record in the long jump, placing fourth with a jump of 4.85 meters.
Freshman
Katie Moore (New Fairfield, Conn.) recorded two top ten finishes, finishing fourth in the javelin and sixth in the 400 meter dash. Junior
Laura Santiago (San Juan, Puerto Rico) and freshman
Elizabeth Busse (Wallkill, N.Y.) earned fourth in the steeplechase and fifth in the long jump, respectively.
For the men, sophomore
Scott Colello (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) continued to shine. Colello set a new school record of 2:06.2 in the 800 meter dash, in addition to grabbing first place in the long jump with a new school record jump of 6.49 meters. Sophomore
Ian Brink (Wallkill, N.Y.) recorded a new school record in the 5K with a time of 18:40. Sophomore
James Liporace ( Newburgh, N.Y.) performed well in three events, placing fifth in the 110 meter hurdles, fifth in the shot put and ninth in the javelin.
The Knights final event of the year will be the ECAC Outdoor Championships taking place the weekend of May 17-18.
