BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Mount Saint Mary College sophomore
Sean Lockwood (Manahawkin, N.J.) scored in the fourth minute of the first overtime as the Knights defeated Polytechnic Institute of NYU, 1-0, in the Skyline Conference quarterfinals. The Mount will take on second-seeded Maritime College in the semifinals on Wednesday, November 2.
With the game scoreless through regulation, Lockwood controlled the ball in the 94th minute long enough to release a shot from 30 yards. The ball dipped as it went towards the goal, beating the keeper and finding the back of the net to give the Knights a thrilling, 1-0 victory.
Both teams recorded 10 shots and six shots on goal. Mount sophomore goalkeeper
Matt Darling (Staatsburg, N.Y.) made six saves to record his seventh shutout of the year.
The Knights can claim their first-ever Skyline championship game appearance with a victory over second-seeded Maritime on Wednesday. The Privateers won the regular season meeting between the two teams, 2-0.
