GOSHEN, N.Y. - Mount Saint Mary College senior
Annmarie Llewellyn (Brookhaven, N.Y.) closed out her match at fifth singles at approximately 11:40 p.m., sending the Knights to a 5-3 victory over Purchase College in Wednesday evening's Skyline Conference semifinal match at Matchpoint Tennis in Goshen. The Mount (12-2) advances to play second-seeded St. Joseph's College in Saturday's championship match.
The Knights jumped out to a 2-1 advantage after the doubles competition, capturing the matches at second and third doubles. Juniors
Jen Gregory (Albertson, N.Y.) and
Emily Gregory (Albertson, N.Y.) snagged an 8-4 decision at two, while sophomore
Jaimee Lubniewski (Middletown, N.Y.)
paired with freshman
Alissa Niad (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) to win, 8-4, at three.
Junior
Gabriela Murphy-Goldberg (Newburgh, N.Y.) earned the first singles point of the night to make it 3-1, but Purchase responded with a win at third singles to make it 3-2. The Knights took fourth singles when
Emily Gregory rallied to win in three sets (4-6, 6-4, 6-2), but the Mount dropped the match at second singles in three sets. Llewellyn clinched the match for the Knights with a 6-3, 6-3 win at fifth singles, leaving the match at sixth singles unfinished. Alisaa Niad had won the opening set, 6-2.
