Cross Country Starts Strong at Vassar College Invitational

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – In their season debut, the Mount Saint Mary College women’s cross country team performed well at the Vassar College Invitational, placing third out of the ten teams present. The men’s team finished sixth out of twelve.

On the women’s side, freshman Nicole Zazzero (Brewster, N.Y.) finished 25th overall and was the top finisher for the Knights with a time of 21:42. Fellow freshman, Rachel Sleeter (Hyde Park, N.Y.), finished in a time of 21:56, which earned her 29th place. Junior Cassandra Gucciardo (Levittown, N.Y.) placed 33rd overall, clocking in at 22:12. A group of freshman performed well for the Knights including: Victoria Wresilo (Shelton, Conn.), Ashley Maurer (Stormville, Conn.), Jennifer Angilieri (Bay Shore, N.Y.), and Jessica Cowell (Shelton, Conn.).

A very young roster proved to be successful for the men’s team at the Vassar College Invitational. Freshman Ian Brink (Wallkill, N.Y.) was the top finisher for the Mount, clocking in at 22:43 which earned him 35th place. Following Brink in the 38th position was classmate Scott Colello (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) in 22:51. Another freshman, Mike Paris (Warwick, N.Y.), rounded out the top three for the Knights with a time of 23:23, which put him in the 45th position overall.

Mount Saint Mary College will compete next Sunday at Purchase College.

Women's Swimming
Freshman Meghan Seaman was named the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year on Saturday while helping her team to the Skyline Conference championship.  Seaman won a pair of individual titles, including the 200 freesyle (2:11.13) and the 1,000 freestyle (12:15.07).  The rookie also finished second in the 100 freestyle (1:00.76) and swam the leadoff leg of the winning 400 freestyle relay, which set a Skyline meet record with a time of 4:00.36.

Senior Censi Danner was named the Skyline Conference Swimmer of the Year on Saturday while leading the Knights to the Skyline Conference championship, the team's third in the last five years.  Danner won all three of her individual events including the 50 freestyle (25.79), the 100 freestyle (57.74), and the 200 individual medley (2:21.27).    The senior also swam the anchor leg of the winning 400 freestyle relay, which set a Skyline meet record with a time of 4:00.36.
