BRONX, N.Y. - In a Skyline Conference double-header with Maritime College on Saturday, Mount Saint Mary College took game one, 4-0, before falling in game two, 5-3.  The Knights moved their record to 7-17 overall and to 6-6 in the conference.

Senior pitcher Frank Snyder (Wallkill, N.Y.) worked the first eight innings of game one, limiting the Privateers to just five hits.  Snyder worked out of a bases loaded jam in the eighth inning to preserve a 4-0 advantage for the Knights.  He sturck out three to earn his second win of the season.  Sophomore Ben Shortslef (Sterling, N.Y.) worked a perfect ninth to close the door.

Senior Rich DeRosa (Valley Stream, N.Y.) provided the only scoring through the first six innings with a solo home run to right field in the third inning.  The Knights would tack on three more runs in the seventh inning, striging together four hits in the frame.  Sophomore Max Tecce (Glen Cove, N.Y.) started the rally with a single to right field, and after moving to second on a wild pitch, scored on a single from sophomore John Conroy (Middletown, N.Y.).  Conroy came around to score on a double by junior Billy Casey (Marlboro, N.Y.).  DeRosa came through once again, this time smacking a double to left-center, to drive home the final run of the inning.

For the game, DeRosa went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in and a run scored.  Casey also recorded a pair of hits and finished 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

In game two, the Knights jumped out to an early lead on a pair of RBI groundouts by Casey and senior Mike Umphlett (North Stonington, Conn.).  The Mount added another run in the fourth as Conroy came around to score on a Maritime error.

Unfortunately for the Mount Saint Mary pitching staff, the game unraveled in the sixth inning, as the Privateers were allowed to load the bases without a hit.  A bases loaded walk, a sacrifice fly, and another bases loaded walk tied the score at 3-3, and allowed Maritime junior Matthew Montanes (Elmhurst, N.Y.) to step to the plate as a pinch hitter.  Montanes delivered a two-run double to give the Privateers a 5-3 advantage.

The Knights went quietly in the sixth and seventh innings, as Maritime freshman Trevor Canella (Sea Cliff, N.Y.) polished off a complete game.  Canella allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits and struck out a pair to earn his second victory of the season.

Sophomore Matthew Senzamici (West Babylon, N.Y.), who entered in relief during the sixth inning, was hung with the loss for the Mount.  Sophomore Dan McCrea (Hicksville, N.Y.) worked the first five and a third innings, allowing three runs on six hits and four walks.

Up next for Mount Saint Mary College is another Skyline Conference double-header.  The Knights will host Yeshiva University on Sunday at Middletown High School.  The games are scheduled for a noon start.
