NEWBURGH, N.Y. - Sophomore John Conroy (Middletown, N.Y.) homered in the seventh inning of the second game of Sunday's Skyline Conference double-header with Mount Saint Vincent, sending Mount Saint Mary to a 3-2 victory and a split of the double-header.  The Dolphins won the first game, 11-10.

Trailing 1-0 headed into the seventh and final inning, the Knights took the lead on a two-run home run by Conroy.  Freshman Matt Prescia (Oakdale, N.Y.) doubled to lead off the inning and then moved to third on a sacrifice by sophomore Max Tecce (Glen Head, N.Y.).  Junior Billy Casey (Marlboro, N.Y.) added another run later in the inning with a sac fly, bringing home sophomore Brian McNoble (Lynbrook, N.Y.).

Sophomore pitcher Dan McCrea (Hicksville, N.Y.) went the distance for the Knights on the hill.  McCrea allowed just five hits and two runs.  He struck out eight to earn the win.

In the first game, the Knights rallied out of a 6-0 hole to take the lead in the top of the ninth inning.  After Prescia and Tecce reached with singles, Conroy moved up the runners with a sacrifice bunt.  McNoble drove home the first run of the inning with an RBI groundout.  Casey followed with an RBI single to tie the game at 9-9, and then senior Rich DeRosa (Valley Stream, N.Y.) doubled to give the Knights the lead.

The comeback victory wasn't to be, however, as the Dolphins responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the ninth.  A costly error allowed Mount Saint Vincent senior Joe Blackford (Stewartsville, N.J.) to drive home the winning run with a double to center field.  Mount Saint Mary sophomore Ben Shortslef (Sterling, N.Y.) took the loss for the Knights.

Tecce and Casey each finished the first game with four hits.  Prescia batted 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI, while junior Louis Peisel (Brewster, N.Y.) was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two runs batted in.

Up next for the Mount is a non-conference game with Ramapo College on Monday.  With rain in the forecast, check back for details on the status of the game.
