Blue Knights Beat Darkness, Saint Joseph College

WEST HARTFORD, CT – In the fading light of Thursday evening, the Mount Saint Mary College women's tennis team collected a non-conference victory over Saint Joseph College, defeating the Blue Jays, 6-1. The Blue Knights remained unbeaten at 9-0.

Mount Saint Mary captured two of the three doubles matches to take an early lead. Senior Caitlin Giordano (Walden, N.Y.) teamed with junior Rebecca Schwartz (New Windsor, N.Y.) for an 8-1 victory at second doubles. Sophomore Laura Galante (Newington, Conn.) paired with freshman Linnea Mowat (Cornwall, N.Y.) to win in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (7-5), at third doubles.

Junior Lindsay Searle (Unionville, Conn.) held down the top singles spot with a 6-1, 6-1 victory. Mowat did a nice job filling in at second singles, rolling to a 6-3, 6-0 win. Giordano cruised at third singles (6-0, 6-2) and Schwartz held on for a 6-3, 6-3 win at fourth singles. The matches at fifth and sixth singles were unfinished due to darkness.

Up next for the Blue Knights is a trip to the Polytechnic Institute of NYU. The match is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 10.
